I live among the creatures of the night
The Shortwave Cinema, 10 Bermondsey Square, SE1 3UN, 020 7357 6845, has a monthly film quiz and the next one is this Sunday, 19 February. More details here: http://newempressmagazine.com/2012/02/11/the-new-empress-quiz-returns-on-sunday-19th-february/
Also on Sundays, a new quiz has been spotted at the Oak and Pastor, 86 Junction Road, N19 5QZ, 020 8616 0943, http://oakandpastor.com/, and t here’s a quiz at The Copper Cow, 2 Fauconberg Road, Chiswick, W4 3JY. Quiz starts 7:15pm, entry is £2 per person, winning team takes kitty. Max. team size of 6.
And apparently we have new additions to the pantheon of Monday night quizzes in The Bull, 13 North Hill, N6 4AB, 020 8341 0510, http://thebullhighgate.co.uk/, also from 20th February, The Blue Posts, 28 Rupert Street, W1D 6DJ. Quiz starts 7:15pm, entry is £2 per person, winning team takes kitty. Max. team size of 6. The Blue Posts also runs a quiz on Tuesdays with the same description.
1. ‘That appears to be two Ms.’
2. ‘Is that Citroen?’
3. ‘F*ck it.’
The above represents the extent of my contribution to a picture round on, of all things, car manufacturer logos. That has got to be up there with all time sh*t picture rounds. We still managed to win…
To continue with quiz tribes. Our next tribe is Lanternfish. Lanternfish are creatures who do not require light to exist. Pubs and indeed quizzes attract this species and I remember once being at the funeral of a quiz player and being surprised to see a number of people who I thought shrivelled up in daylight. They tend to come in late to quizzes, sit at the bar, grudgingly speak to bar staff and drink quite a lot. Do they always win? No, but they know a lot of obscure facts and do sometimes win…. the way to stop them is putting in lots of pop culture stuff. Or car manufacturers’ logos.
Still more next week…
