Wednesday week

Now, as some of you will know, I have raised the issue of Wednesday quizzes previously.  Pubs tend to start these but after a while almost invariably change the night of the week, usually to a Thursday.  Why?  Because they feel they can’t compete with football.  I’ve heard that the Windsor Castle is switching its Wednesday quiz to a Thursday, and the logic of picking the same night as one of its closest neighbours – the Five Bells – is questionable.

But we also have news of two new Wednesday night quizzes, so without further ado here we go:

The Westbury, 34 Kilburn High Road, NW6 5UA, 020 7625 7500.  Here’s what I received on this: Brush up on your geography, dust off your history books and put your thinking caps on for the Westbury’s weekly quiz. Its Wednesday slot means it’s a perfect midweek outing, with a chance to win our rollover cash prize. Plus, we have Spider from Coronation Street as the quiz master! What more could you want?  Entry is £2 per person, with a maximum of 6 people per team.

Then there’s:
The Black Heart,
2-3 Greenland Place,  NW1 0AP, 020 7428 9730.  Here’s the description:  Our quiz is on every other Wednesday, so the next is on the 24th March and then they follow on fortnightly. We have interactive rounds, play-dough, drawing and dressing up all included.  Theme based, included so far we’ve had animals, around the world in less than 8 questions, and art.

Good luck to both, and I will let you know when the changeover happens for the Windsor Castle – if I’m told.

To O’Neill’s in N12 last Tuesday, where the pub put on a good effort and ran a quiz in advance of St Patrick’s Day, with questions on all things Irish.  Did we win?  Yes, of course, in the course of which we found out that there are no moles in Ireland. The pub management are thinking of re-starting their quiz so when I get details I’ll let you know. Unfortunately, numbers were not what they could have been because of a clash with – football.  So it’s not just Wednesdays…
