The Twilight Zones

So, do you know the name of the battle at which Alred the Great defeated the Danes in 878?  Me neither (Edington), but unfortunately that was my jackpot question when I ill-advisedly went up to answer last week.  We had bought six tickets and split them up, and I looked them and said ’27 is coming up’.  Well, 27 was duly drawn, but whatever guardian angel who tipped me on the ticket obviously had been on the cusp of clocking off and failed signally to give me the answer. The QM saw my lack of knowledge and assured me that most other people in the pub would know the answer.  How many did?  None.  And the jackpot continues to roll….

New Wednesday quiz:

The Arbiter, 310 North End Road, Fulham, SW6 1NQ, 020 7385 8001, prizes include cash and free drinks, also booby prize.

Strange, or maybe not so strange, that most of the new quizzes I’ve been sent seem to be central.  What’s happening in zones 2 and outwards?

And somewhere beyond these zones, or maybe not, lies the mystery place.  Obviously the cryptic clue was a bit much and the guesses dried to a trickle.  So let’s go back to something straightforward:

5.  Has a cathedral.
