QMs’ obsessions
Next update on or before Sunday 13 September – I’m away.
So there is a double post to keep you going, and we start with a newly-notified quiz. Thanks as ever to people who send these in, and, importantly, the news of cancelled or disccontinued quizzes. Keep them coming.
The Grape & Grain, 2 Anerley Hill, Crystal Palace, SE19 2AA, 020 8778 8211. Weekly quiz Wednesdays at 8pmstarts 9th Sept Four fun rounds of general knowledge, music, picture and connections. Plus spot prizes, and a rollover bonus round. Entry £2 per head, teams of up to four(ish).
I did promise this week the all time (s)hit parade of all-time worst themed rounds in pub quizzes, so here we go.
At Number 5 and it links in with the list I gave last week, as it might be a hand-around: Advertising Slogans. Done in pubs too numerous to mention. One’s reaction can only be a big ‘so what?’.
At Number 4 in the tedium stakes we have Makes of Car. Enough said.
At Number 3 we have Back to the Future, the films, the dialogue, the endless trivial facts. Oh, god. I will spare the blushes of the quizmaster whose obsession this is. Was it C.S. Lewis who said that once you’ve written something, you should read back over it, identify the three things you like best, and take them out? Perhaps the same should apply to quizmasters….
At Number 2 we have Sponge Puddings. Oh, yes.
At Number 1 we have My Girlfriend. If the QM who decided to inflict this on us this hadn’t been such a pompous twit, and the pub and quiz harboured such pretensions, it might have been forgotten by now. I have blanked out what the questions were except I think at the end he asked what year she (simpering beside him) was born and at that stage we were so fed up that we added ten years to her estimated age. Did we lose the quiz? yes.
So happy quizzing for what remains of August and the first half of September; I’m venturing southwards and will update again as soon as I can…
