Strangely strange
It was a small pub which had seen better days, so I decided with some bloke (not actually sure who he was) to provide some entertainment there. We decided that we’d run an educational night on the history of the universe. We soon managed to plan this and rolled our notes around a large cardboard tube. I was aware also that I had an old quiz about the universe so we thought we’d have that as well. Things were going reasonably well and on the night the pub staff were supportive. We sat there waiting for punters to come and the first one who arrived was my father, with, strangely enough, his face painted (but we realised it was Halloween so that was not such a big surprise). Then others started drifting in and I realised I had forgotten the quiz material. ‘Back in a few minutes’, I said, off home to get it. When I came back the pub was full, peope’s faces were painted, and my companion was leading everyone in what looked like the Bollywood dance from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Then I woke up.
And that is perhaps the only dream I have ever had which featured a quiz; I dreamed it during my holiday and the face painting and cardboard tube had featured during the day, but what should have made me suspicious is the appearance of my father who died in 2001. And a quiz about the origins of the universe….? Well, as strange topics and rounds go, it possibly beats ‘Sponge Puddings’, the ever-famous Five Bells specialist round.
Recession? What recession? Any quiz which offers the possibility of a bit of money is packed to the gills with punters spending more on drink than on prize money. And speaking of gills, and strange round topics, how do you fancy ‘marine life’ (experienced during the week)? Not much, I reckon…
