Trader Vic
The Victoria, 28 North Hill, London, N6 4QA, 020 8340 6091.
The Vic restarts its quiz on Thursday 19 February. Now, the Vic quiz has had many incarnations, and has lapsed during the frequent change of owner/management over the last few years. The version of the quiz most beloved of locals was one I did not like at all. I can remember one typical question, something about what Christmas song Tarzan was most likely to sing, the answer being ‘Jungle Bells’, and it kind of went down from there until the moment when the takings were split into three to form the prize fund and you got £4 in a small silvery chalice – ie a peanut dish. The version of the quiz I liked the best (questions sent by Help the Aged, proceeds go to that charity, prize of meals donated by the pub) didn’t seem to take off, so basically what do I know.
Well, I do know that the latest quizmaster to take up the baton is Dave, an alumnus of the Prince of Wales, and when we went to a one-off quiz of his I felt that the questions were too hard for the kind of quiz the Vic probably should have. Anyway, let’s see how things go, and you might see me there for the first night.
To the Islington Tap last Sunday, and it’s a question and recession-defying money-rich quiz, but not very comfortable with the amount of people in the pub. Still, it’s nice to meet a QM who is interested in what you think and was prepared to listen to any feedback…
