I predict a Bleriot
The title of this week’s second post derives from a female QM’s ‘charming’ pronunciation of an answer to a question about French aviators during the week. That quiz doesn’t have particularly good memories associated with it, as during a ‘wipeout’ round (one wrong and your score for the whole round is wiped out) an incorrect answer was given, and a usually interesting connections round was scrapped in favour of a round on the English’s favourite other country (according to a poll, I think in Metro, during the year). This apparently had been requested by a regular team, of that nationality, who got 9/10. What a surprise.
However, to some new stuff:
The Rose and Crown, 31 Mill Lane, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 0UG, 020 8504 0420: Tuesday quiz, cash and drink prizes.
The Park Tavern, 212 Merton Road, SW18 5SW, 020 8355 8933: Wednesday quiz, jackpot round for winners.
Also, to continue on quiz machines games. ‘Pub Quiz’ is probably your most straightforward game, answer questions on various topics, maybe switch category once, progress through the categories to win (some) money. Sometimes you get a bonus lifeline where four beer mats shuffle around and you pick the one which has ‘Add Pass’ or ‘Add Cheat’ on its flipside (needless to say, you get a look before they turn over). I just wish they wouldn’t try to add ‘jokes’ among the alternatives for each answer as they don’t tend to be wildly funny. Will try to get you an example for next week. ‘Pub Quiz’ is probably one of the most widely available games also, so it’s worth practising as you’ll come across it on a lot of machines. Fletcher’s advice is ‘When you get offered Sport, change category’ and true enough, the sports category is probably the hardest of the lot…
